The aim of the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is to elucidate the relation between the behaviour and properties of materials and their structural and microstructural characteristics. Particular emphasis is placed upon research into advanced metallic materials and composites with a metal base in relation to their microstructure and production technique. On this basis it is possible to optimise both the microstructure and material properties and to design advanced materials. The Institute was established in 1955 as a part of the newly founded Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. Since that time it has been continuously developed to the present day. The Institute has more than 120 employees at present. Almost a half of the staff are scientists (i.e. with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree). A number of Ph.D. students who perform their study at IPM is important. The Institute is divided into three scientific departments and a service department. The scientific departments consist of ten research groups. Department of Mechanical Properties focuses on the physical nature of processes which occur in metallic materials during creep, fatigue, creep/fatigue, brittle fracture and their combinations in relation to the evolution of microstructure and structure. Department of Structure of Materials studies the structure of materials and selected thermodynamic, diffusion and magnetic properties. The term structure is understood in a broad sense, ranging from atomic bonds, through crystal lattice and its imperfections, the size of crystallites in materials, to the macroscopic dimensions of loaded bodies. Department CEITEC IPM is one of six organization units of the Central European Institute of Technology. The department is focused mainly on study of mechanical, transport and magnetic properties of advanced materials. The IPM cooperates with many Czech and international industrial companies, research institutions and universities.

LIAZ a.s. is currently engaged in the development and production of unmanned helicopters. This is a new line of business as a continuation of the long tradition of LIAZ truck production. The company was founded in 1951 and later on, having already 10 manufacturing plants with 11,000 employees, was producing up to 13,600 trucks a year. LIAZ a.s. is not just a supplier of unmanned helicopter complexes. The company also offers specialized systems and other specific services (including a whole range of payload systems and software) as well as technical tools associated with the use of a helicopter (SkySpotter 150 B and SkySpotter 150 C simplified specialty versions). Extensive technical and manufacturing experience enables the LIAZ team to introduce innovative technical features during the R&D phase and implement ambitious concepts. With the SkySpotter 150 complex, the customers receive a ready-made solution tailored to their own specific needs.


PROENGIN

PROENGIN: Excellence in CBRN threat Management ! Proengin is a French company founded in 1972 that develops, manufactures and markets Chemical and Biological detection systems. Proengin’s sensors are designed to detect in few seconds very small quantities (some micrograms per cubic meter) of chemical warfare agents of all kinds, from mustard gas that was used during World War-I to the most recent Novichok agents that had stricken four persons in UK recently. Besides chemical agents the same sensors detect biological warfare agents such as Anthrax. The technology used by Proengin, flame spectrophotometry, is unique in CBRN field. This technology consists in burning gas or particles (in a small flame) and analyze the light of the flame. The different spectra of that light gives the nature of the atoms burned in the flame and therefore the presence of toxic chemical or biological warfare agents.
